People — Freelance projects
Hire vetted freelance developers for your project.
Describe what you need built. Vetted developers, designers and data specialists from ProDevs’ network across Africa send proposals. Hire the one you want and pay per milestone through escrow.
- Free to post and to receive proposals
- 48h typical time to your first proposals
- 5% client fee, added to each payment you make
01 How it works
Describe it today. Proposals within 48 hours.
No bidding wars and no sifting through hundreds of profiles. You describe the work once; matched, vetted freelancers come to you.
-
Step 1
Describe the project
Write a few sentences or paste a spec. We turn it into a brief with scope, skills and milestones, and you edit it before anything is published.
-
Step 2
Get matched proposals
Vetted freelancers whose skills match the brief are invited to propose. Expect proposals within 48 hours, each with a price and an approach.
-
Step 3
Hire, then fund the first milestone
You fund when you hire, not when you post. The first milestone’s payment is held in escrow, not paid out.
-
Step 4
Pay per milestone
Review each delivery. When you approve a milestone, its payment is released to the freelancer. Not right yet? Ask for changes first.
02 What you can hire for
Engineers, data specialists and designers, for a defined piece of work.
Each role page explains what we assess for that skill. The same vetted network takes on project work.

03 Escrow & milestones
You pay for work you’ve approved.
Projects are split into milestones, each with its own deliverable and price. Money moves only when a milestone is approved.
-
01
Money is held, not handed over
Milestone payments go into escrow when you hire. The freelancer can see the milestone is funded, so they can start with confidence; you know nothing is paid out until you say so.
-
02
You approve every milestone
Each milestone has its own deliverable and amount. Review the work, ask for changes, and release payment only when it matches what was agreed.
-
03
Everything stays on the platform
Brief, proposals, messages, files and payments live in one place, so there is a record of what was agreed if you ever need it.
-
04
A dispute process if it goes wrong
If you and the freelancer cannot agree, ProDevs’ dispute and refund process applies to milestones paid through the platform.
Read the refund policy and terms.
04 Fees
Free to post. 5% when you pay.
You pay the price agreed with the freelancer, plus a 5% client fee on each payment. No subscription, no fee to post, no fee to receive proposals.
| Posting a project and receiving proposals | Free |
|---|---|
| Milestone price agreed with the freelancer | $1,000 |
| ProDevs client fee (5%) | $50 |
| You fund into escrow | $1,050 |
Example in US dollars. Budgets can also be set in NGN, EUR, GBP or KES. Hourly contracts, where enabled on your account, carry the same 5% fee on each payment.

07 Questions
Hiring freelancers, answered.
-
How much does it cost to post a project?
Nothing. Posting a project and receiving proposals is free. When you pay a milestone, a 5% client fee is added on top of the milestone amount — a $1000 milestone costs $1,050 in total. There is no subscription.
-
When do I pay?
When you hire. At that point you fund the first milestone, and the money is held in escrow. It is released to the freelancer only when you approve that milestone’s work. Later milestones work the same way.
-
What does “vetted” mean on ProDevs?
Freelancers join ProDevs through an application and assessment process run by our technical team, including skills assessments on Evalia, our assessment platform. Proposals on your project come from talent who have been through that process.
-
How quickly will I get proposals?
Most projects receive proposals within 48 hours of being published. Very specialised skills or unclear briefs can take longer; a specific brief with a budget gets better proposals faster.
-
What if the work isn’t what we agreed?
Don’t approve the milestone. Ask for changes through the platform; the payment stays in escrow while you do. If you still cannot agree, the ProDevs dispute and refund process applies.
-
Can I pay by the hour instead of per milestone?
Most projects run on fixed-price milestones. Hourly contracts with time tracking are available for ongoing work on eligible accounts; the same 5% client fee applies to hourly payments. Talk to us if you need one.
-
Which currencies can I use?
You can set a project budget in US dollars, Nigerian naira, euros, British pounds or Kenyan shillings.
-
Where are the freelancers based?
Mostly across Africa — including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa — working remotely with companies in the UK, Europe, North America and Africa.
